More graffiti today where it was painted over last week. See http://www.standardspeaker.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2243&Itemid=2&PHPSESSID=a9f6f54b4ecb52c1d1af825e29efc01a
I see nothing wrong with "artistic graffiti", but that's an oxymoronic phrase, isn't it? What I mean is, when artists use the graffiti style to do murals or things like that to make the neighborhood, playground, etc. look better. I've seen that when I lived in Philadelphia, and it can be nice.
When someone or some people decide that it would be 'cool' to spray their gang BS on someone else's property, it pisses me off. And I definitely feel for the victims! I remember years ago when it happened to us, my family, on this very house. We felt violated, wondering what we did to bring this on. Nothing, I tell you!
(We live near the high school, and we think it could've been kids from there that did it, but we'll never know for sure. If you are familiar with Hazleton, you might know how bad parking, littering, and loitering is in the neighborhood that surrounds the school. When we have complained about the issues, the security guards and city cops have told us that it's OUR FAULT that we decided to live so close to the school. So, what, should no one live in a five-block radius around the school? And it doesn't matter that we pay taxes and that my sister and I are alumni of the school!)
And if you're going to make the effort to spray paint words, KNOW HOW TO SPELL THEM! It was quoted in the Standard Speaker that they misspelled an expletive- IDIOT! That made me laugh, shows how intelligent they are...
As for the mayor's proclaiming English as the town's official language and making illegal immigrant employment and housing illegal, I generally agree with it, but it may be too little too late.
My view: if my great-grandmother was able to learn the language when she came over here as an adult, I think it would be at least worth a try for others to do so as well. Wouldn't I have to do the same if I moved to say, Russia or Poland or Spain or France or India? I have many non-English customers and try to communicate with them as well as I can because I know how important a person's health is. It's great when there is some general understanding of English or if there is a family member or friend that can translate, but sometimes we're stuck if there isn't.
My view: illegals are ILLEGAL! This has been a problem for the whole country for years and not enough is being done about it. Look at the story about the Ohio company and their illegal workforce in Coal Township (in the Standard Speaker today, and talked about on the Jumpin' Jeff Walker show today). The ICE wouldn't even investigate! COME ON! What to do about it? I don't know, honestly. It's been going on so long and no matter what they try to do at the borders, they still get through. It's so dangerous and many die in the desert trying to cross, is it worth it?
What are your thoughts, my reader? Please let me know if you live in Hazleton or not, it's ok if you don't, lol! I'm just curious as to how it is for other towns in the area and outside NEPA as well. Thanks for reading my ramblings!
Hazleton: I don't know if I can leave! Farmer's Diet Iced Tea, Senape's/Longo's pizza, Third Base Hoagies, memories, family, friends, etc. etc. etc.
